Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble
Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble (LUME) is a collective of 15 musicians with diverse backgrounds and experiences in the fields of jazz, pop, rock, classic, contemporary and improvised music.
Influenced by many sources ranging from Funk to textural music, from Boogie woogie to impressionistic ambient, the group combines elements of writing with improvised patterns, using a variety musical languages.
The project is led by the composer and musical director, Marco Barroso.

Marco Barroso
Composition, direction, piano
I started on the piano, at the age of 8, which was my first relevant musical experience.
At the age of 12, I began composing my own music, mixing basic elements of baroque, classic and romantic style with nuances of pop/rock.
Although elementary, these initial experiments were very important for developing a creative base for my idiosyncratic and free style of composition. These small compositions were inspired by some of my first influences (besides classical music): Queen, Elton John, Dire straits, Eric Clapton, Joe Jackson, Jorge Benson, Pixies and U2.
Later on, in my adolescence, I started to listen to heavier rock, especially noise, grunge and trash metal with groups like Sonic Youth, Soundgarden and Megadeth, which I am still influenced by today.
Later on I went to study piano with Teresa Menéres and composition with Pedro Rocha, who introduced me to contemporary music at the “Academia de Amadores de Música” in Lisbon.
Here I started to study the great 20th century composers such as, Schoenberg, Messiaen, Boulez and Ligeti, who would have important consequences in my musical vision and my future compositional work.
Meanwhile I was gaining curiosity about Jazz and alternative musicians like Frank Zappa, John Zorn and Mike Patton.
Later, I studied composition at the “Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa” with Sergio Azevedo, Luis Tinoco and Cristopher Bochmann.
Some of my most important compositions to date include “Saxophone Quartet”, the piano pieces “Azulejos” and the “Percussion Quintet”.
I also studied piano in the jazz school “Hot Club de Portugal” and developed a relationship with ensemble “Raum”, for which I composed some works [Suite Siga Sousa, (…), Blues for Rufus].
Recently, I created the project LUME(Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble), a group of 15 musicians who interprets repertoire composed by myself [Festa, (…), Fábula, Fantômas, In Blues, Turn around, Free style boogie] and where the influences of rock, jazz, classical and contemporary music are explored.
Jorge Reis
Soprano Saxophone
A true veteran of the portuguese jazz scene, Reis is a true original. With an imediately identifiable sound and vocabulary, Reis is one of the most interesting saxophone players based in Lisbon.
His first contact with music was, at the age of six, at the Santa Cecília Music Academy, studying the violin. He continued his classical studies with the violin at the Lisbon Conservatory, after which he became a member of the RDP Symphonic Orchestra.
Jazz appeared as an alternative way of musical expression, and in 1983 he started to teach himself the saxophone. After a brief contact with the Hot Clube Jazz School he was able to consolidate his knowledge, and from 1985 on, he entered a very intense activity as a Jazz musician to this day.
He is a member of, along with Mário Laginha and Tomás Pimentel, the Lisbon Jazz Sextet, with whom he recorded "Ao Encontro" in 1988. In the eighties he was also a guest soloist with singer Maria João´s band, with whom he performed regularly.
From then on he has collaborated with every major jazz artist in Portugal, and played every major event.
Also of notice is his eclecticism, noticeable in collaborations in such different areas as the ones represented by musicians such as Sérgio Godinho (with whom he plays to this day), Jorge Palma, Tito Paris, Delfins, Trovante, Brigada Victor Jara, among many others.
He recorded with Lisbon Jazz Sextet, Trovante, Sergio Godinho, Ficções, Quarteto de João Paulo, Sexteto de Tomás Pimentel, Filipa Pais, Orquetra de Jazz do Hot clube de Portugal, Brigada Victor Jara, Companhia dos sons, e Bruno Santos.
In 2003, Jorge recorded his CD “Pueblos”.
He is professor at the school of Jazz of the Hot Club de Portugal.
João Pedro Silva
Alto Saxophone
Joao Pedro Silva initiated his musical studies at the Sociedade Filarmónica Humanitaria de Palmela.
Graduated at the “Escola Professional de Musica de Almada” and at the “Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa”.
He obtained several prizes: the “Yamaha scholarship 2003” attributed by the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe; 3rd prize of the Concorso Internazionale di Music “Marco Fiorindo”, in the soloist category, in Nichelino, Torino, Italy; and 3th prize of the competition “Revelação Jovens Musicos”, promoted for the Rotery International. Attended masterclasses with Pierric Leman, Stephàne Laporte, Joel Batteau, Henk Van Twillert, Jean-Yves Formeau, Vicent David, Claude Delangle, Jean-Marie Londeix, Daniel Deffayet, James Houlik and Marcos Romão dos Reis.
Colaborated with Big Band de Setúbal, Casino do Estoril, theater group “O Bando”, Orquestra didáctica da Foco Musical, Orquestra Académica Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Solistas de Lisboa, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra de Saxofones de Portugal and Orquestra Sinfonietta de Lisboa.
He is a founding member of the Quartet “Artemsax” and the Quintet “Lusotango”.
Organised the 1st “Festival Internacional de Saxofone de Palmela”.
He is professor of saxophone and chamber music at the “Academia de Amadores de Música de Lisboa”, “Conservatório Regional de Palmela” and “Escola de Música Nossa Senhora do Cabo” in Linda-a-Velha.
José Menezes

Born in Porto in 1957, José Menezes graduated in jazz performance from the “Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espectáculo – ESMAE”.He attended workshops with David Leibman, Jan Garbarek, Dave Schnitter, Garry Niewood, Alan Skidmore, Joe Lovano.He played with “Orquestra Regional do Norte”, “Ensemble de António Pinho Vargas”, “Decateto de Mário Laginha”, “Maestros António Vitorino de Almeida, Miguel Graça Moura, Ferreira Lobo, Paulino Garcia, Pedro Osório, Thilo Krassman, José Marinho, Pedro Duarte, José Eduardo e Armindo Neves”, Big-Band do Hot-Club de Portugal, Eddie Henderson, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbard, Bernardo Sasseti, Maria João, Mário Laginha, Perico Sambeat, Julian Arguelles, Porto Saxophone Quartet (founding member) , Luis Represas, Sergio Godinho,Tito Paris, Dany Silva, “Laurent Filipe e os Sons do Mundo", Filipe Mukenga, Carlos Alberto Moniz, Manuel Freire.
Elmano Coelho
Baritone Saxophone
Born in Vila Franca de Xira in 1982, Elmano Coelho began his musical studies at the age of 5. Studied in the “Conservatorio Regional Silva Marques de Alhandra” with the Professor José Massarrão.
Participated in diverse workshops and masterclasses with José Massarrão, Victor Santos, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Stéphane Laporte, David Binney and Massimiliano Donninelli.
Participated in the first nacional Tournée of the “Big Band Nacional da Juventude”.
He is professor of Saxophone at the “Academia de Musica de Stª Cecília”, “Conservatório de Santarém” and at the “Conservatório Metropolitano de Lisboa”.
He is a founding member of the CUTSAX - Lisbon Saxophone Quartet.
He continues his saxophone studies at the “Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa”.
He is a member of the orchestra for the television program «Herman Sic».
Manuel Luís Cochofel
Flute
Manuel Luis Cochofel was born in Angola, in 1965.
He graduated from the “Conservatório Nacional de Musica de Lisboa” and the from the “Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa”.
Studied in the Real Conservatory of Music of Copenhaga with Toke Lund Christiansen and Ola Birger Pedersen.
In 1989 and 1991, he received 2nd and 3rd prize of high level in the Competition “Prémio Jovens Musicos”.
Beyond is soloist career, he has played with the “Banda Sinfónica da Guarda Republica Nacional”, “Orquestra Portuguesa da juventude”, “Orquestra de Harmonia dos Jovens das Comunidades Europeias”, “Orquestra de Câmara Sousa Carvalho” and the “Orquestra Gulbenkian”.
He has attended master-classes with Pierre-Yves Artaud, Atarah Ben-Tovim, Susan Milan, Benedek Csalog, Jonathan Snowden e Trevor Wye.
He taught at the “Academia de Música de Linda-a-Velha”, “Centro Cultural de Beja” and at the “Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa”.
He is currently a professor at “Academia de Amadores de Música” and at the “Escola Profissional de Artes da Beira Interior”.
Paulo Gaspar
Clarinet
Born in Azambuja in 1970, Paulo Gaspar began his musical studies at the “Centro Cultural Azambujense”.
Studied at the “Conservatorio Nacional de Lisboa” and the Jazz School of the “Hot Club de Portugal”.
He graduated in Clarinete for the “Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa” and has a Masters degree in Musical Arts at the “Universidade Nova de Lisboa”.
He is co-founder of the group “Dixie Gang” and has collaborated with musicians as Sergio Azevedo, Vitorino, Paco Bandeira, Jose Mario Branco, Jorge Palma, António Chaínho, Laurent Filipe, Tomás Pimentel, Sergio Godinho, Luis Bragança Gil, Daniel Schvetz, Rui Veloso, Ala dos Namorados and Rodrigo leão.
He has played with: “Banda da Armada”, “Orquestra Sinfonia B”, “Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa”, “Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa”, “Orquestra Sinfonieta de Lisboa”, “Orquestra da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian” and “Big Band do Hot Club de Portugal”.
He is the clarinet teacher at the “Escola de Jazz do Hot Club de Portugal”.
Jorge Almeida

Born in Santa Maria da Feira, 1971, Jorge Almeida initiated his musical studies in trumpet at the age of 11 at the “Academia de Musica de S. João da Madeira”.
Studied at the “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”.
In 1987 he received first prizes in several portuguese competitions which led him to an extensive activity as soloist.
He attended master classes with Philip Smith, Rod Franks, Allen Vizzuti, Eric Aubier and John Miller.
He played with the “Banda Sinfónica da PSP”, “Orquestra Académica Metropolitana”, “Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa”, “Orquestra de Câmara de Macau” and “Orquestra Nacional do Porto”.
He is principal trumpet of the “Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa”.
Performed as a soloist at the “Orquestra Académica Metropolitana de Lisboa”, “Orquestra Nacional de Sopros dos Templários” and “Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa”
Made several recordings for the publishing companies EMI and Marcopolo and as a soloist, for the national radio “R.D.P. Antena 2”.
He is a member of “ Grupo de Metais do Seixal”.
Participated at the “Festival de Jazz de Valado dos Frades” where he played with the “Hybrid Jazz Machine” in a Stan Getz Tribute.
He has taught several master classes such as, “VI - VII Cursos de Verão das Caldas da Rainha”, “VI Curso de Verão de Santa Maria da Feira” e “I Curso de Verão de Arrifana”(in Santa Maria da Feira).
He taught at “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”, “Academia de Música de Paredes” and “Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho”.
He is currently a professor at the Instituto Piaget.

João Moreira

Joao Moreira is one of the most experienced musicians in the Portuguese jazz scene.
Born in 1970, he initiated his trumpet studies at the age of 11.
He graduated in jazz and contemporary music from the New School for Social Research in New York.
Played with Joe Chambers, Wallace Roney, Mulgrew Miller, Buster Williams, Jimmy Owens, Michael-Phillip Mossman and John Pattituci, Charles Tolliver, Bobby Sanabria, Mário Laginha, Maria João, Carlos Barreto, Chris Cheek, Mark Turner, John Ellis, Rick Margitza, Bruce Barth, Phil Markowitz, Sylvia Cuenca, Lynn Arriale, Robert Sadin, Tom Harrel, Tim Hagans, Ira Coleman and Troy Davis.
Performed in almost every Portuguese jazz festival, as well as many abroad (United States, Spain, among others.) He has performed in legendary clubs as the Blue Note, Smalls and Zinno´s.
He has recorded with Paula Oliveira and Bernardo Moreira, Bruno Santos, Nuno Ferreira, Carlos Brown, Rick Margitza and Maria Viana.
He currently plays in: Septeto de Pedro Moreira, Sexteto de Bernardo Moreira, Paula Oliveira & Bernardo Moreira, Underpressure, Lena d´Agua, “Big Band do Hot Clube de Portugal”, “Sexteto do HCP”, “Estardalhaço Brass Band” and the “Guimarães Jazz Festival Orchestra” João Moreira also has his own quartet with original compositions. He is professor at the “Hot Clube de Portugal” Jazz School, coordinator of the jazz course of “Conservatório de Música da Madeira”, and professor at the Instituto Piaget.
Pedro Monteiro
Trumpet
Pedro Monteiro began his musical studies at the age of 8 at the “Sociedade Musical Euterpe” in Portalegre.
He studied in the “Conservatório Regional de Portalegre”, “Academia Luísa Todi de Setúbal” and the “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”, where he worked with David Burt and Phillip Nava.
He attended master classes in France and Germany, with E. Aubier, C. Garrque and Bo Nilsson.
He was finalist on the International Competition for Young Trumpet Players in Bremem, Germany.
Pedro Monteiro played and recorded with the “Mediterranean Youth Orchestra”
In 1999, he began to work regularly with the professors Philip Smith (New York Philarmonic Orchestra) and Rod Franks (London Symphony).
He is professor at the University of Évora and plays often with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and the “Big Band do Hot Club de Portugal”.
Currently, he is second trumpet in the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa.
Pedro is regularly invited to teach master classes all over the country.
He has performed recitals in Portugal, Spain and France.

Born in Lisbon in 1984, Luis Cunha studied with Emídio Coutinho at the “Escola Profissional de Música de Almada”.
Attended master classes with Dave Taylor, Joe Alessi, Scott Hartman.
Member of the “Banda da Armada”.

Born in France in 1974, Eduardo Lála studied at the “Centro de Formação de Instrumentistas de Sopro do Barreiro”, “Conservatório Regional de Setúbal”, “Escola Profissional de Música de Almada” with Emídio Coutinho and graduated from the “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”.
Attended master classes with Gilles Millière, Jon Peterson, David Tailor, Olaf Ott and with trombone trio of the Amsterdam Concertgebow Orchestra.

Born in 1966, in Brazil, he settled down in Portugal in the 1980´s.
Studied at the Jazz School of the “Hot Club de Portugal”.
He has collaborated with many portuguese musicians.
Beyond his own projects: Zê-di-Zastre, Fictions, Piazzollando, YDBand, Yuri Daniel played and recorded with Rui Veloso, Dulce Pontes, Sergio Godinho, Jose Mário Branco, Resistência, Amélia Muge, Maria João and Mário Laginha, Fredo Mergner, Ana Mar, Peter Jewel, Luis Pedro Fonseca, Joel Xavier, Carlos Nuñez, Deason, Ciganos D´ouro, Idefix, Manuel Pablo, Jose Peixoto, Filipa Parents, Loopless, Pedro Madaleno, Chiqui Rojas, António Mardel, Marisela Leal, Laurent Filipe, Jean Sommer, Eugénia Melo e Castro, Lura, Paulo Gonzo e Pilar Homem de Melo.

Yuri participated in several jazz festivals in Portugal and abroad.

He is a professor at the JBJazz and at the “Escola de Jazz do Barreiro”

He then graduated from the “Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho”.
Later on, he studied at the “Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo do Porto” and at the “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”, with Jean-François Lézé.
He colaboratted with: “Grupo de Percussão e Orquestra de Câmara da Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho”, “Grupo de Percussão da Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo do Porto”, “Orquestra do Norte”, “Quarteto de Jazz Nova Blue”.

He is a member of, along with Mário Laginha and Tomás Pimentel, the Lisbon Jazz Sextet, with whom he recorded "Ao Encontro" in 1988. In the eighties he was also a guest soloist with singer Maria João´s band, with whom he performed regularly.
From then on he has collaborated with every major jazz artist in Portugal, and played every major event.
Also of notice is his eclecticism, noticeable in collaborations in such different areas as the ones represented by musicians such as Sérgio Godinho (with whom he plays to this day), Jorge Palma, Tito Paris, Delfins, Trovante, Brigada Victor Jara, among many others.
He recorded with Lisbon Jazz Sextet, Trovante, Sergio Godinho, Ficções, Quarteto de João Paulo, Sexteto de Tomás Pimentel, Filipa Pais, Orquetra de Jazz do Hot clube de Portugal, Brigada Victor Jara, Companhia dos sons, e Bruno Santos.
In 2003, Jorge recorded his CD “Pueblos”.
He is professor at the school of Jazz of the Hot Club de Portugal.
João Pedro Silva

Joao Pedro Silva initiated his musical studies at the Sociedade Filarmónica Humanitaria de Palmela.
Graduated at the “Escola Professional de Musica de Almada” and at the “Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa”.
He obtained several prizes: the “Yamaha scholarship 2003” attributed by the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe; 3rd prize of the Concorso Internazionale di Music “Marco Fiorindo”, in the soloist category, in Nichelino, Torino, Italy; and 3th prize of the competition “Revelação Jovens Musicos”, promoted for the Rotery International. Attended masterclasses with Pierric Leman, Stephàne Laporte, Joel Batteau, Henk Van Twillert, Jean-Yves Formeau, Vicent David, Claude Delangle, Jean-Marie Londeix, Daniel Deffayet, James Houlik and Marcos Romão dos Reis.
Colaborated with Big Band de Setúbal, Casino do Estoril, theater group “O Bando”, Orquestra didáctica da Foco Musical, Orquestra Académica Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Solistas de Lisboa, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra de Saxofones de Portugal and Orquestra Sinfonietta de Lisboa.
He is a founding member of the Quartet “Artemsax” and the Quintet “Lusotango”.

Elmano Coelho

Born in Vila Franca de Xira in 1982, Elmano Coelho began his musical studies at the age of 5. Studied in the “Conservatorio Regional Silva Marques de Alhandra” with the Professor José Massarrão.
Participated in diverse workshops and masterclasses with José Massarrão, Victor Santos, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Stéphane Laporte, David Binney and Massimiliano Donninelli.
Participated in the first nacional Tournée of the “Big Band Nacional da Juventude”.
He is professor of Saxophone at the “Academia de Musica de Stª Cecília”, “Conservatório de Santarém” and at the “Conservatório Metropolitano de Lisboa”.
He is a founding member of the CUTSAX - Lisbon Saxophone Quartet.
He continues his saxophone studies at the “Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa”.
He is a member of the orchestra for the television program «Herman Sic».
Manuel Luís Cochofel

Manuel Luis Cochofel was born in Angola, in 1965.
He graduated from the “Conservatório Nacional de Musica de Lisboa” and the from the “Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa”.
Studied in the Real Conservatory of Music of Copenhaga with Toke Lund Christiansen and Ola Birger Pedersen.
In 1989 and 1991, he received 2nd and 3rd prize of high level in the Competition “Prémio Jovens Musicos”.
Beyond is soloist career, he has played with the “Banda Sinfónica da Guarda Republica Nacional”, “Orquestra Portuguesa da juventude”, “Orquestra de Harmonia dos Jovens das Comunidades Europeias”, “Orquestra de Câmara Sousa Carvalho” and the “Orquestra Gulbenkian”.
He has attended master-classes with Pierre-Yves Artaud, Atarah Ben-Tovim, Susan Milan, Benedek Csalog, Jonathan Snowden e Trevor Wye.
He taught at the “Academia de Música de Linda-a-Velha”, “Centro Cultural de Beja” and at the “Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa”.
He is currently a professor at “Academia de Amadores de Música” and at the “Escola Profissional de Artes da Beira Interior”.
Paulo Gaspar

Born in Azambuja in 1970, Paulo Gaspar began his musical studies at the “Centro Cultural Azambujense”.
Studied at the “Conservatorio Nacional de Lisboa” and the Jazz School of the “Hot Club de Portugal”.
He graduated in Clarinete for the “Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa” and has a Masters degree in Musical Arts at the “Universidade Nova de Lisboa”.
He is co-founder of the group “Dixie Gang” and has collaborated with musicians as Sergio Azevedo, Vitorino, Paco Bandeira, Jose Mario Branco, Jorge Palma, António Chaínho, Laurent Filipe, Tomás Pimentel, Sergio Godinho, Luis Bragança Gil, Daniel Schvetz, Rui Veloso, Ala dos Namorados and Rodrigo leão.
He has played with: “Banda da Armada”, “Orquestra Sinfonia B”, “Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa”, “Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa”, “Orquestra Sinfonieta de Lisboa”, “Orquestra da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian” and “Big Band do Hot Club de Portugal”.
He is the clarinet teacher at the “Escola de Jazz do Hot Club de Portugal”.
Jorge Almeida

Born in Santa Maria da Feira, 1971, Jorge Almeida initiated his musical studies in trumpet at the age of 11 at the “Academia de Musica de S. João da Madeira”.
Studied at the “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”.
In 1987 he received first prizes in several portuguese competitions which led him to an extensive activity as soloist.
He attended master classes with Philip Smith, Rod Franks, Allen Vizzuti, Eric Aubier and John Miller.
He played with the “Banda Sinfónica da PSP”, “Orquestra Académica Metropolitana”, “Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa”, “Orquestra de Câmara de Macau” and “Orquestra Nacional do Porto”.
He is principal trumpet of the “Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa”.
Performed as a soloist at the “Orquestra Académica Metropolitana de Lisboa”, “Orquestra Nacional de Sopros dos Templários” and “Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa”
Made several recordings for the publishing companies EMI and Marcopolo and as a soloist, for the national radio “R.D.P. Antena 2”.
He is a member of “ Grupo de Metais do Seixal”.
Participated at the “Festival de Jazz de Valado dos Frades” where he played with the “Hybrid Jazz Machine” in a Stan Getz Tribute.
He has taught several master classes such as, “VI - VII Cursos de Verão das Caldas da Rainha”, “VI Curso de Verão de Santa Maria da Feira” e “I Curso de Verão de Arrifana”(in Santa Maria da Feira).
He taught at “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”, “Academia de Música de Paredes” and “Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho”.
He is currently a professor at the Instituto Piaget.

João Moreira

Joao Moreira is one of the most experienced musicians in the Portuguese jazz scene.
Born in 1970, he initiated his trumpet studies at the age of 11.
He graduated in jazz and contemporary music from the New School for Social Research in New York.
Played with Joe Chambers, Wallace Roney, Mulgrew Miller, Buster Williams, Jimmy Owens, Michael-Phillip Mossman and John Pattituci, Charles Tolliver, Bobby Sanabria, Mário Laginha, Maria João, Carlos Barreto, Chris Cheek, Mark Turner, John Ellis, Rick Margitza, Bruce Barth, Phil Markowitz, Sylvia Cuenca, Lynn Arriale, Robert Sadin, Tom Harrel, Tim Hagans, Ira Coleman and Troy Davis.
Performed in almost every Portuguese jazz festival, as well as many abroad (United States, Spain, among others.) He has performed in legendary clubs as the Blue Note, Smalls and Zinno´s.
He has recorded with Paula Oliveira and Bernardo Moreira, Bruno Santos, Nuno Ferreira, Carlos Brown, Rick Margitza and Maria Viana.
He currently plays in: Septeto de Pedro Moreira, Sexteto de Bernardo Moreira, Paula Oliveira & Bernardo Moreira, Underpressure, Lena d´Agua, “Big Band do Hot Clube de Portugal”, “Sexteto do HCP”, “Estardalhaço Brass Band” and the “Guimarães Jazz Festival Orchestra” João Moreira also has his own quartet with original compositions. He is professor at the “Hot Clube de Portugal” Jazz School, coordinator of the jazz course of “Conservatório de Música da Madeira”, and professor at the Instituto Piaget.
Pedro Monteiro

Pedro Monteiro began his musical studies at the age of 8 at the “Sociedade Musical Euterpe” in Portalegre.
He studied in the “Conservatório Regional de Portalegre”, “Academia Luísa Todi de Setúbal” and the “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”, where he worked with David Burt and Phillip Nava.
He attended master classes in France and Germany, with E. Aubier, C. Garrque and Bo Nilsson.
He was finalist on the International Competition for Young Trumpet Players in Bremem, Germany.
Pedro Monteiro played and recorded with the “Mediterranean Youth Orchestra”
In 1999, he began to work regularly with the professors Philip Smith (New York Philarmonic Orchestra) and Rod Franks (London Symphony).
He is professor at the University of Évora and plays often with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and the “Big Band do Hot Club de Portugal”.
Currently, he is second trumpet in the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa.
Pedro is regularly invited to teach master classes all over the country.
He has performed recitals in Portugal, Spain and France.

Born in Lisbon in 1984, Luis Cunha studied with Emídio Coutinho at the “Escola Profissional de Música de Almada”.
Attended master classes with Dave Taylor, Joe Alessi, Scott Hartman.

Born in France in 1974, Eduardo Lála studied at the “Centro de Formação de Instrumentistas de Sopro do Barreiro”, “Conservatório Regional de Setúbal”, “Escola Profissional de Música de Almada” with Emídio Coutinho and graduated from the “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”.
Attended master classes with Gilles Millière, Jon Peterson, David Tailor, Olaf Ott and with trombone trio of the Amsterdam Concertgebow Orchestra.

Born in 1966, in Brazil, he settled down in Portugal in the 1980´s.
Studied at the Jazz School of the “Hot Club de Portugal”.
He has collaborated with many portuguese musicians.
Beyond his own projects: Zê-di-Zastre, Fictions, Piazzollando, YDBand, Yuri Daniel played and recorded with Rui Veloso, Dulce Pontes, Sergio Godinho, Jose Mário Branco, Resistência, Amélia Muge, Maria João and Mário Laginha, Fredo Mergner, Ana Mar, Peter Jewel, Luis Pedro Fonseca, Joel Xavier, Carlos Nuñez, Deason, Ciganos D´ouro, Idefix, Manuel Pablo, Jose Peixoto, Filipa Parents, Loopless, Pedro Madaleno, Chiqui Rojas, António Mardel, Marisela Leal, Laurent Filipe, Jean Sommer, Eugénia Melo e Castro, Lura, Paulo Gonzo e Pilar Homem de Melo.

Born in 1977, Pedro Silva studied at the “Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian” in Braga.
He then graduated from the “Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho”.
Later on, he studied at the “Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo do Porto” and at the “Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra”, with Jean-François Lézé.
He colaboratted with: “Grupo de Percussão e Orquestra de Câmara da Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho”, “Grupo de Percussão da Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo do Porto”, “Orquestra do Norte”, “Quarteto de Jazz Nova Blue”.
Pedro plays regularly with the “Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa” and “Orquestra Académica Metropolitana”.He integrates the “Ensemble Metropolitano de Percussões”.Attended master classes with Robert Van Sice, Emannuel Séjourné, Miguel Bernat, Graham Jones, Jan Pustjens, Allen Otte, James Culley e Rusty Burge “The Percussion Group” (Cincinatti) and Nicolas Martanciow (solist at the Paris Orchestra).
He is soloist at the “Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa”.
